Guangzhou, China / 2 April 2014

Contacts were made, hands were shaken and deals were sealed at CIFM / interzum guangzhou, which came to a close on April 1 in the southern Chinese city. This edition marks the event’s continuous growth in both exhibitor and visitor numbers since its inception in 2003.

As Asia’s largest and most participated furniture production and woodworking machinery trade fair, CIFM / interzum guangzhou had 1,147 exhibitors sprawled across 130,000 square meters of trade floor jostling for the attention of 62,548 visitors who walked through its doors over the five days.

The international exhibitor halls featured 280 well-known overseas companies from 32 countries and regions, bringing with them the latest products, equipment and technologies to the buyers. During the event, demonstrations by woodworking machinery powerhouses Homag, IMA and SCM pulled in throngs of interested crowd while leading upholstery material brands such as Deslee Clama, Boyteks Tekstil and Bekaert captured the audience with new product and technology launches. Among the interior material suppliers, Schattdecor, Rehau and Renolit proved to be the most eye-catching to potential customers with their respective booth constantly buzzing with activity.

Another major selling point of CIFM / interzum guangzhou 2014 was the nine distinct country pavilions helmed by Germany, US / Canada, Italy, Turkey, Chile, Spain, the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC), Canada Wood and the debuting Swedish Wood, showcasing each respective region’s specialties and products.

Once again, CIFM / interzum guangzhou was held jointly with the China International Furniture Fair (CIFF) with both events attracting a combined approximately70,000 buyers hailing mainly from the fields of furniture manufacturing, furniture wholesaling and retailing, interior design, industry associations and organizations, wood and plastics processing and trade, as well as DIY (do-it-yourself) and BIY (build-it-yourself). Visitors spoke positively of CIFM / interzum guangzhou 2014 and affirmed its position as the industry's flagship event. Buyer delegations from Korea, Malaysia, Japan and Chile have won nods and warm welcome from exhibitors.

As a third-time exhibitor at CIFM / interzum guangzhou, AHEC’s Regional Director, Southeast Asia & Greater China Mr. Chan Jick Chun assessed: “We are very satisfied with the number of visitors. This year, we’ve brought 25 companies to exhibit and we are likely to bring more next year. In my opinion, CIFM / interzum guangzhou is the best event of its kind with very high quality visitors. The trade fair has also done well in terms of publicity. In the coming years, we’ll be making persistent efforts to continue our participation.”

Sales director Dale L. Birkland of Titus from the UK was another exhibitor who gave his thumbs up: “We have had good response with the quality of customers, so we are really satisfied. interzum guangzhou is the only furniture fair we participate in in China. [The] “interzum” [brand] has a good reputation in Europe.”

“We have a lot of visitors coming these few days, especially for fabrics, so our meetings are very focused. I am really glad to see that most of them are real customers, and a lot of business have already happened. This is the first time we are here after so many years, and we are pretty satisfied. The services provided at interzum guangzhou are quite good,” said Liselotte Debaere, concept developer of the Innovation & Design Center at Deslee Clama on her returning participation to the event.

“CIFM / interzum guangzhou has high industry recognition with major customers from the fields of equipment and materials visiting and procuring at the show every year as well as understanding recent industry trends. Our main participation objectives are to enhance our influence, learn more about the industry and identify more potential customers, and CIFM / interzum guangzhou is able to meet our needs in these three areas. In addition, being held concurrently with the China International Furniture Fair has also brought us convenience,“ said Li Mengtao, Henkel China’s AI China & Hongkong.

When queried about his participation, Mr. Nino Bacci, Asia sales manager of Paolino Bacci evaluated: “This is the ninth year we’ve participated and next year will be the tenth year. It is a long time. This year, there are more visitors than last year. At the moment, for us, China is our most important market. We participate in two furniture related shows in China and this one is much better. As for me, when considering if to participate in a show, I have to see what companies are participating. If I see many manufacturers and competitors, it means the fair is important.”

“The overall performance of CIFM / interzum guangzhou this year has exceeded our expectations, and has once again proven its position as a leading international trade fair for the furniture manufacturing industry. I am very pleased to hear the favorable feedback from the exhibitors, both old and new, on all aspects of CIFM / interzum guangzhou,” said organizer Koelnmesse’s vice president for Asia Pacific, Michael Dreyer.

“CIFM / interzum guangzhou 2014 was also complemented with two official forums and a series of exhibitor-hosted seminars.

The official forum on March 29 themed “New Usage Trends of Natural Materials” saw the Chief Inspector of the National Hardwood Lumber Association, Dana Spessert as well as Ursula Geismann, general manager of the Confederation of the German Woodworking and Furniture Industries and Fan Wenbing, Vice-dean of Shanghai Jiaotong University’s department of architecture offering insights on the design, application and trends of natural materials.
